LAVATOY
Kerameio is a well-respected pottery studio based on the island of Serifos but acknowledged internationally with partnerships and exhibitions worldwide. Kerameio designs follow minimalist aesthetics respecting the Cycladic landscape. Kerameio also applies sophisticated pit firing techniques (such as “raku” and “sagar box”) to ensure both the longevity of its products and their artistry. To the Senses of Skyros Collection, Kerameio contributed with sculptures and decorations, plates, vases and an amazing “raki” set consisting of various carafes and “raki”-shots glasses to choose from. One of their signature marks is the matte glazes and the several coatings of glazes to produce unique coloring. In the collection of Senses of Skyros, Kerameio was mostly inspired by the shades of the white-washed houses, the deep blue Aegean sea and the pine tree forest.
Yfi is a dynamic trio consisting of Nikolina, Antigone, and Aimilia, with different backgrounds varying from industrial design to psychology and a common love for clay. All of their experiences and knowledge blend in their creativity; the team first focused on “pleasing” ceramic objects and then expanded to functional art pieces. The word “υφή” in Greek (pronounced /iˈfi/) stands for texture, and, in fact, Yfi Ceramics for the Senses of Skyros Collection vastly experiments with the feel of touch. Influenced by the wildness of the old quarry called “Pouria” Yfi Ceramics designs are balancing between the wildness and the softness of the Skyrian nature. Also celebrated by their pieces, the shape of the honeycomb, as a tribute to the popular thyme honey of Skyros, and the patterns of old Skyrian handkerchiefs. Yfi Ceramics aim to create everyday objects that offer beauty and comfort, just like a daily dose of art.
“The soil silently composes the magic of the world” is Lavatoy’s favorite phrase. Nikos Katsoulas -the creative force behind Lavatoy- draws his inspiration from the contrast between the primitive material (clay) combined with modern functionality to produce handy, warm, familiar, and at the same time impressive pieces. For the Senses of Skyros Collection, Nikos created -among other ceramics- a series of coffee cups influenced by the peculiar rock formations of Skyros, which the sea itself has sculptured. Enjoy a hot or cold cup of coffee and lose yourself in the light blue, glossy white and mint glazes of Lavatoy’s designs. Let your imagination take you to a relaxing afternoon in Skyros!
MYRA
Myrsini Alexandridi is an artist based in Stockholm working with ceramics and ink. She is a practicing architect, originally from Greece, always carrying with her the Mediterranean aura trying to harmonise it with the northern European aesthetics.
“Greece is my heritage which I carry with me both consciously and subconsciously. Her history, tradition, architecture, customs, and topography shaped me as a person, an artist and an architect and thus influence my work.”
Through her work she tries to reconnect with her roots, the memories of the places she has visited and images from her childhood. The artworks she creates are inspired by the astonishing Greek islands; each one carries a unique identity related to the landscape and the culture has flourished on it. But all of them together create a unity and an identity that inspires and directs her artistic vocabulary.
Her family’ s origins are from Skopelos, an island in the northern part of the Aegean with a beautifully green landscape.
